Mind is trapped in illusion of the phenomenal existence of waking and dream states. But that’s what the mind does, is to attend to the objective phenomenon and dwell in projection after projection. In the waking state it is trapped in the projection of cosmic mind engaging the gross senses and organs of action, and in the dream state, it is trapped in its own projection engaging its subtle senses and organs of action.
If one enquires into the nature of mind, it disappears because it is a formless phantom and has no separate existence . It appears to exist by borrowing its form from the body and borrowing its substance from pure awareness (I am). Mind flourshies by grasping and feeding on forms which traps itself into the projected illusions.
Freeing the mind from the illusion trap requires us to develop the power of awareness and witness the activities of the mind. Awareness is not to control but watching the thoughts and feelings arise and subside like waves in the ocean. To be aware when mind moves between the past and future triggered by memory experiences and imaginations respectively . This awareness brings one’s ability to living in the present and not getting caught up in projections.
Vasanas (stored memory impressions) like desire and anger (raga and dvesha) propels the mind to engage the organs of senses and action. These vasanas traps the mind in the illusory worlds in the waking and dream states. Vasanas has to be dissolved through awareness.
Just like in the movie theater the movie projected on the screen is unreal and the real being the white screen , similarly the mental projections of the real and dream world is unreal while the real being the Bhraman
Meditate on the Bhraman !
Mind is the projector.
Light bulb is the light of Self.
Film images are the impressions in the mind.
Screen is the outside world.
We project onto the world what passes through our own mind.
If our mind is full of peace, only the Light of Self will be projected.Swami Satchitananda
